Long-term
care goes beyond medical care and nursing care to include
the daily assistance you would need if you ever have a chronic
illness or disability that renders you unable (physically
or cognitively) to care for yourself for an extended period
of time.
Long-term
care can provide assistance to a young or middle-aged person
who has been in an accident or suffered a debilitating illness.
Long-term
care can be provided at home or at a nursing facility, assisted
living facility, adult day care, or alternate care facility.
Care
provided by family members can be supplemented by visiting
nurses, home health aides, home-delivered meals, chore services,
and respite services for caregivers who need a break from
daily responsibilities.
